The photo's below were taken in October 1999, while on location during a recent construction project in the San Francisco, Bay Area. We performed this work under contract for our customer, Pacific Bell. The innovative design and technology that has gone into the development of the Controlled Environmental Vaults allows for them to be installed, maintained and monitored, all while being buried completely underground. These vaults are equipped with independent ventilation, heating and cooling systems which permit them to maintain themselves in a climate controlled environment. For construction sites where above ground space is limited, Controlled Environmental Vaults are an ideal solution.
The Controlled Environental Vault being installed in the above photo, involved a two piece installation and construction process. The combined weight of the vault alone weighed in at 150,000 lbs. The individual weight of each piece was approximately 72,000 lbs. on top, and 78,000 lbs. on bottom.
As the vault arrived on location by flat bed trailer, it was off-loaded and lowered for installation by two cranes with a lifting capacity of 200 tons.
The interior of the Controlled Environmental Vault houses the wiring, cables, and electronics. Upon completion of wiring, the top portion of the vault is lowered down and fitted onto the bottom. After the vault has been buried, any interior on-site maintenance can be performed by accessing a man-hole system.
The photo above shows the vault lid being lowered into the ground in preparation for sealing the vault.
